Transport Committee Report: Local Roads Funding and Maintenance - Filling the Gap

HTMA welcomes the Transport Committee’s ReportLocal Roads Funding: Filling the Gap, published on 1st July 2019.  HTMA also welcomes the recommendations that include a five-year funding settlement for local roads, possible ring fencing of funds and the collection and use of better condition data to drive efficient and effective maintenance.

The report is the first step in acknowledging some of the changes that are needed to bring consistent improvement to local roads and to boost local communities and local economies.  HTMA and its members remain committed to working with the Department for Transport, clients and fellow contractors to deliver positive change and results.  In these times of politicians and political parties trying to outbid each other on what they will spend, what we need is a sensible commitment to local highway maintenance investment to facilitate the delivery of that positive change.
